The two sons of Shiv and Parvati.  Ganapati or Ganesha  is usually regarded as the elder son in north India.  In the south Kartikeya takes that place.  Ganesha is the elephant headed god , bestower of good fortune and success in new ventures.  Kartik(eya), also known as Skanda, is often regarded as the patron of warriors.
