ANAHATA CHAKRA
Known as the `wheel of the unstruck sound`, the `Heart Centre` of Anahata Chakra is the first step towards the recognition and development of our psycho-spiritual being.
Located in the region of the physical heart, the Anahata Chakra is traditionally described as being a circle surrounded by a ring of twelve lotus petals sometimes described as deep red in colour; the colour of red Valentine roses. The deity is the goddess Kakini, sometimes linked with the nadi Ida, and the bird the swan symbolising the life force (prana). Within the circle of lotus petals are two triangles creating a six pointed star as one points upwards, symbolising the male force, and one points downwards symbolising the female force. In Anahata chakra there is the balance of all the energies coming together. The wind element (vayu), or air, is the element of this chakra, and the seed mantra Yam.
Anahata chakra has held special significance for many thousands of years in traditional teaching. It is regarded as the seat of the Divine, and the centre in which the sacred sound of Aum can be found – the unstruck sound emanating from within the chakra itself.
Anahata is regarded as the emotional centre of the body, and the seat of pure love. This centre is associated with the pure balanced love which is unconditional, and not physical passion. Green is a colour often associated with this chakra, and this also represents the perfect balance between the two primary colours of yellow (the physical colour of Manipura) , and blue (the colour of Vishudda (throat centre) – the lower and upper bodies.
